September is my favourite month to take a mini break in the South of France. It’s just coming to the end of high season but the weather is still gorgeous and very much like summer. Here is a little photo diary of some of what I was up to.
Nearly always, without fail, I go straight from the airport to one of my favourite spots to have a quick and simple lunch by the harbour.
My gorgeous little rental. I never drove a Fiat 500 before. Just loved it.

If you’re going to have drinks in Monaco, you might as well sit in the Blue Gin bar at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort and watch the sunset! Nicknamed the “Waterfront” of Monaco, this beachfront space offers stunning Mediterranean views.
My stop over this time was the eclectic Hi Hotel in Nice, designed by Matali Crasset.
A visit to the South of France is always filled visiting lots of art shops. A tip. Go to la Rue de l’Hôtel des Postes. There and adjacent streets you’ll find a multitude of art shops.
As I’m taking Liz Steel’s #SketchingNowBuildings course, my focus this time was very much on architecture, buildings, windows and shutters.
Some early sketches.
More location sketching.
I took many photos of these great facades, windows and balconies.
Well, it was short but I feel rejuvenated. Happy to have caught the last rays of sunshine before the winter sets in. There’s something so special about the light in that part of the world that I’m determined to go back for another mini break before Christmas.
