    Daily Sketching Part Seven

    October 29, 2015

It’s been six weeks since I last posted my sketches and I was sure I didn’t have that much to show. But holy moley, I’ve surprised myself! Don’t have to hang my head in shame after all.

For new readers, here are some more of my older sketches.

The last sketch in sketching part six showed me exploring different backgrounds. I had no idea what to put on top of these garish coloured stripes but think what I did shows up well. This was still part of Lisa Congdon’s new ‘More Sketchbook Explorations‘ class on Creativebug. It was part 3: Flora and Fauna Patterns. Lisa challenged us to create balanced all-over designs full of funky florals and cute animal figures. Here you’ll see my three different designs!

I saw a close up section of the Shinaoyama Tokyu Building on Instagram and this next spread was inspired by this.

This below was my entry for a competition run by the London Design Festival and Montblanc. The price was to win the latest Montblanc M fountain pen designed by Marc Newson. I didn’t win but was featured on the London Design Festival Instagram page which was good enough for me.

#designtakeslondon was the theme and we had to interpret what it meant to us. Entitled LONDON ROCKS DESIGN, my piece showcased iconic design pieces and London landmarks, depicting the different design districts and exhibitions featured during London Design Festival back in September.

This next spread started out very different and if truth be told, I completely messed it up. I’m still showing it for the patterns and mar making.

I went to my very first Urban Sketchers meet up in Chelsea a couple of weeks ago. I started this spread of houses and finished it once I got home.

This was inspired by the wonderful Barnaby Barford’s Tower of Babel exhibited at the Victoria and Albert museum. The installation is six meters high, made out of 3000 individual bone china buildings, each representing a London shop. The artist cycled across London for a whole year photographing each shop. At the base of the tower are derelict shops or pound stores while at the pinnacle of the tower you’ll find exclusive shops and galleries. You can catch this wonderful installation until 1st November.

I loved it and it was a perfect inspiration for my obsession with city scape, housing and generally everything buildings.

I was thinking of circuses and started a spread I quickly abandoned. That gave me the idea to have a imaginary circus city. Made out of shapes and strong colours it was meant to be jolly and fun. Achieved?

Last week I had a meeting near the Lloyds building, designed by Richard Rogers.. It’s always fascinated me and I released a photo on Instagram. This spread was directly inspired by that photo.

I’ve been extra super busy for the past 2 weeks and I really miss sketching. Fingers crossed this period will pass quickly!

For those who would like to view my individual full spreads, head over to my Instagram page and search for the #colourlivingsketchbooks. As always, thank you for the encouragement and taking the time to look at my art!
