Vive La Différence – Sex and the City

February 4, 2013

Morning. Happy monday. Yay! It’s vive la différence monday!

Today we have the lovely Anya from Denmark. Anya is the author of anyaadores, a website i go to for the most incredible imagery and selection of colour, interiors and her adorable girls!

For new readers:

The concept: each month I will invite one blogger. They will create and showcase one image/vignette. There are 20 themes and 20 objects for my guest to choose from. They choose 1 theme and up to 3 objects. I will then create an image/vignette based on their choice. Everyone has free reign on how to create the image. It can be simple photography, a drawing, a collage, a hand-painted image, a styled table top… the choice is yours! The fun part is that you, my readers, will see 2 versions inspired by the same subject matter. There is no right or wrong. There’s just ‘different’.

Here it comes: Anya chose the theme: sex and the city with the following objects: glass ware, handbag, jewellery

I was one of the girls glued to the telly when they showed the newest episode of SATC back in the day. I imagine myself, getting ready to meet the girls, makeup table a mess, drink at the ready, figuring out what to wear, where to go, whilst listening to some cool tunes. Today my life is more likely spent in front of the telly than in a cool bar, so today I’m still getting myself ready, but for a night in with the girls, watching SATC dvd sets, nattering and catching up on gossip, ours and Carries. Thanks for having me Tina, so much fun taking part.

Who didn’t like SATC? Right? Believe it or not, next year it will be 10 years since the series ended. In honour, my take is more of how the girls would have dealt with being women in the 21st century. The 90’s was all about going out, having fun and bagging a man. Today the girls have found different ways to ‘be a woman’. They are wiser (owl), they understand that love comes in many disguises (book), they express themselves with blogging, they craft, they create, they appreciate the simple things in life (magazine). Slowly approaching 50, they wear far less make-up and appreciate a night in with their loved ones (candle as glass ware). Technology is everywhere (iPhone and iPad, keyboard) and yet, these girls love to draw, write and go down memory lane. It’s good to age gracefully and these girls do!

Wow, that took me back on memory lane. I want to thank Anya for being a great sport and, personally, for making me feel 30 again! Thank you for your hard work.

Who enjoyed this? I hope the beginning of the week treats you well and i will see you back here on thursday.

    What fun!! Love this.

10 yrs since SATC?! Oh gosh.

I love the mood in each of these; fun, colourful, current – just like the ladies who created them 🙂

    Happy Monday Tina!

    xoxo

Can you believe it? I was shocked to see that too…
Thank you darling. If you do come to MTB London you’ll meet the lovely Anya!! xx

    Very enjoyable indeed!

Definitely wiser, enjoying a simpler life, technology everywhere, lots of MT tape & finding as many making & doing & creating outlets as possible.

Not sure about less make-up though, perhaps wearing more to look like less!

Thanks to both of you xx

Ha. I do think as we get older, less make-up looks better:-)

I loved Anya’s but as she did it so perfectly I had to create a new mood for them.
      Pleasure love x

Fabulous! Love to see the differences – and I like both approaches, the first being more ‘girly’ (in a positive sense) and the second being more ‘bloggery’ (in a positive sense, too).

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:27 pm

Aww, thanks Igor. Glad you enjoyed it (member of the VLD club) 🙂

Having never watched Sex & the City (I may be one of the few), I still appreciate the wonderfully styled images above. Both quite distinct insights to Anya & Tina and their way of being. You go girls xx

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:28 pm

I don’t think it’s your cup of tea… having said that, watch an episode and decide for yourself:-)

      Thank you darlin xx

WOHOO how fantastic to see the difference. I adore how you took a more adult approach, and I am probably still fairly girly (and bloggery ha ha)
    Have a lovely day Tina,
    Axxx

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:29 pm

I took that approach because I do feel I’ve outgrown SATC (sadly) and am less girly than you (love that you are girly btw)..

Loved having you as a guest. Thank you so much for the efforts and great result. See you in less than a month xxx
      Woohoo!!!

What a fun and clever post idea; I love it! And gosh, 10yrs since SATC? I feel so ancient now!

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:31 pm

Hello Juliette. Thank you for stopping by… yes nearly 10 years. I feel ancient too:-)

How fab! I was just watching series two the other night, and trying to explain to my boyf that it was not just about the outrageously funny (and intelligent) scripts, but THEM clothes!! When I first started watching it I was quite smug as they were all older than me, and now I’m older than Samantha was in S2!! (and it has to be said, I have far less energy too!!) 😉 xx

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:33 pm

Hahahaha… your comment cracked me up. Most blokes thought SATC was all about shagging… they just didn’t get it! Carrie’s clothes were so ahead of the times and the styling in general was fab. I did LOVE it and watched every episode but am afraid have now outgrown it…

Samantha had energy and a great body too… oh, yes, and she had some great men!!! xx

    PS great pictures too!!! xxx

Can’t believe it’s ten years. Two lovely photos, interesting that you both picked a ‘desk’ type area. Both are pretty tidy, compared with mine. Yes, lovely owl pot. Really like that lipstick shade in the second one.

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:35 pm

Yes, desk type scenario works well… of course, would be fun to do outdoors…

Owl pot making appearance in my post today:-)

That lipstick shade is UNFORTUNATELY discontinued. I bought the whole last stock from New York but it has sadly finished:-(

As a lover of SATC I am shocked that it is almost 10 years since the series ended! I love the differences in the vignettes… as always T, it is a pleasure xx

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:37 pm

Thank you lovely… I knew when I wrote it’s nearly 10 years, most of you would have this reaction…. including ME!! xx

  • Reply Catherine Bedson February 5, 2013 at 12:08 pm

Loved SATC..ten years has really gone by that quickly! Both of these are great, how the girls were and what they’d be like now…still interesting, fun, daring women! Gorgeous xx

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:39 pm

Thank you (member of the club)… I think it would be fun to do a series of them being older and wiser, especially since this is hot subject matter in Hollywood due to the ageing population. Imagine Meryl Streep, Sally Field, Helen Mirren, etc etc wouldn’t that be fab??? xx

  • Reply Judith February 5, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Fabulous SATC differences! Can’t wait to re-watch the series soon with my 19yo stepdaughter 😉

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:40 pm

Bet she will LOVE it… and you too:-) Thank you Judith.

  • Reply Doris February 5, 2013 at 9:08 pm

Haha! SATC just love it… ten years wow… seems so long ago but it’s still timeless. I loved both versions. xD

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:40 pm

Thanks Doris. It is timeless, especially the clothes.. just loved it all. x

Great vignettes Tina and anya. A decade! makes me feel so old. Although I must say Carrie Bradshaw was much ahead of her time – blogging (in a way) at her laptop. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday xx

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:42 pm

Correct. She was far ahead of everything. Her character is timeless and will live on forever.
      Yes, yay to Sunday xx

  • Reply Mademoiselle Poirot February 6, 2013 at 10:16 am

Really TEN years? I used to be glued to the TV when SATC was on – makes me feel very old now… Love the styling ideas, both fantastic in their own way and both wonderfully creative! xo

    • Reply tina February 7, 2013 at 12:44 pm

Hello, welcome! I’ve seen you on Anya’s site:-)

Thank you so much… it is very fun to do… I loved Anya’s take and it really transported me back to the era of SATC. x
