Urban Jungle Bloggers – Plants & Tea

January 29, 2015

The Urban Jungle Bloggers series is back for 2015. Hurray!

Urban Jungle Bloggers is a monthly series, devised by Igor and Judith. The idea is to get some green into our homes, especially for us urban folks! Every month they invite bloggers to share ideas for creating an urban jungle through styling challenges, DIYs, green tips and tricks. Every month there is a different theme on the topic. You can follow and get more Urban Jungle Bloggers inspiration on Pinterest and on Facebook.

January’s theme is: ‘plants & tea’. (or coffee, depending on your preference)

What have plants and tea got in common? Apparently plants do love coffee and tea. I know for a fact that you can give your plant a boost of antioxidents with some green tea and I’ve been known to pour in left over green tea into my plant pots.

Today I want to show you my new terrarium and talk more about the well-being qualities of plants & tea.

How cute is this terrarium, from the housing to the selection of plants and greens? It was New Year’s Eve and I was on my way home. Stopping at a florist I saw this one off and unique beauty and just had to take it home with me. I guess it was the perfect gift to myself for having had an exciting and special 2014. Why not celebrate ourselves? I did that quite a bit in 2014.

Have you seen the Mapology Guide on Be Present Perfect?

I digress, back to plants & tea.

Spot the little slider of the door and the cute handle to carry it around!

I love what’s been chosen to make this terrarium. Succulents, bark, moss, greens and this gorgeous green stone!

I’ve been wanting a terrarium for AGES and am also thinking of making my own. What has been the greatest obstacle for me has always been the actual housing. I don’t often come across beautiful glass vessels and that’s often the deterrent for me.

I love these mini pine cones….

Ok, let’s talk tea. Tea comes in so many varieties and I drink different teas for different occasions. In the morning I mostly have fresh lemon and ginger with hot water. I find it wakes up my liver. Then during the day I change things up. If I want ‘normal tea’ I make a fresh leaved rooibos tea with homemade almond milk.

I also have a little ritual going. I try and stop at least once a day to practice a little mindfulness. For this I usually choose a variety of fresh tea leaves. Some favourites are Of Herbs by The Herball. My other go to shop is Postcard Teas. Love so many of their excellent teas and thumbs up for their amazing packaging. See more in this post.

LOVE green mulberry by Postcard Teas. Also big fan of their Sobacha tea.

My ritual requires me to stop, get some tea herbs, fill the little glass tea pot. After a couple of minutes I decant the brew into a glass pitcher as seen here above. Like this you can re-use the herbs a few times (depending on the tea and how strong you like it.)

I find having and tending to plants has a certain mindfulness to it and so does my tea ritual.

This is my tea set with a bamboo tray. I’ve had it for years and it has become a firm favourite of my daily routine. You only need a little bit of tea to make you stop in your tracks, breathe and be in the hear and now.

I do really love it. There’s something special about it. It’s not so commercial as others coz it’s in Vogue…

Well, I believe we do have a date for our tea. Look forward lovely xx

Very pretty! I love a terrarium, I didn’t know that about green tea, but now you’ve said that and Lapinblu suggested coffee poured on plants, I’m going to try it, perhaps then they won’t wilt on me!

      Hello Cate.

Haha, please research a little more. I don’t want to be the cause of your wilting flowers wilting even more:-)
      Thank you for your comment!

I’ve had terrariums on my mind a lot lately. Love the one you’ve put together. And that little plant that looks like mini dill pickles is amazing!

    • Reply tina January 29, 2015 at 8:22 pm

Me too, for about 2-3 years. I didn’t put this one together but am planning to make my own.

You’re so right, they do look like mini dill pickles and I love how she’s put everything together.
      Hope you’re well..

What an absolutely fantastic little green terrarium, Tina!! I am totally stunned and in awe! And isn’t such a green gift the best we can offer ourselves? After all it’s thriving life! So beautiful! Hope to enjoy a cuppa with you soon! Thank you very much for joining us, Tina!

Isn’t it just the cutest? I believe the girl is japanese. I will hunt her down and get her to do me another one:-)

I agree, it was the perfect gift for the end of the year at about 8pm on New Year’s eve… a special moment indeed. It was just sitting there all alone on a shelf and waiting for me to take it home!!!( well, that’s what I tell myself ).

Look forward. Not long now… always a pleasure dearest Igor.

That terrarium! What a gorgeous post! P.S. I don’t drink coffee either – tea all the way for me 😉 x

    • Reply tina January 29, 2015 at 8:25 pm

Gorgeous but probably not as gorgeous as your magnificent one!!!

Great. Coming over to Bermondsey soon. Let’s meet for a cuppa xx

What a beautiful gift to yourself! I saw something very gorgeous and very yellow passing by already (still need to check out your post about it!!) but this is pretty fabulous too! Love how they worked on the different cacti and “accessories”. I just received my first terrarium although it’s recommended not to use wet soil in it… so I have to find out how to work around that 😉 You should definitely consider making your own some time. I’m sure it will turn out wonderful, like a sketch! bisous!

    • Reply tina January 29, 2015 at 8:28 pm

Hahaha, think you might like that ‘something yellow’. I believe it will speak to you:-))

I know. I also love how she is really storytelling with her combinations. I’m due to work on a Terrarium with a Florist but we need to find a suitable date, that’s all. Good luck. I don’t know much yet about soil et cetera but will do my research before I attempt mine.

      Thank you Judith xx

Love the terrarium! And your tea set look so inviting. I drink way too much coffee these days, you’ve inspired me to try and drink more tea instead and take the time to relax…

      Hi.
Thank you… I believe coffee can be addictive. May substitute some of them with experimental tea. Hope you enjoy it:-)

Your new terrarium is gorgeous! What a wonderful gift to yourself – and looks so lovely next to your tea tray. Surrounded by all that loveliness, I hope 2015 proves to be just as special and exciting (if not more so).

    • Reply tina January 30, 2015 at 4:42 pm

Thank you Sarah…. was rather chuffed with it.
Oh, I hope so. Caught that dreaded flu and was really not up to speed for around 2 weeks.
Today I feel like a new energised human being. So let 2015 begin!!!

      Hope you’re well.

I am a big tea drinker, Tina. I hardly ever drink coffee at all. Love your glass teapot.

Oh my, I love that terrarium! It’s mostly succulents but it looks like the woods thanks to the pinecones and moss. I too have never got around to making one but maybe I will, using these pics as inspiration!

    • Reply tina February 5, 2015 at 10:00 am

Thank you Ruth. I love it too…I agree, what attracted me was the woods like look. So different to what’s out there.

I hope to make one myself too:-) Let’s compare notes!

      Hi Leah,

Yes, still dreaming of the day you and I can have tea together…. it’ll happen:-)))

Glad you like the Terrarium. Thought it was pretty special myself xx

I love your terrarium Tina, my cousin has made them in the past for her market stall and they always sell well. Such a great way to bring some plants and greenery and a little bit of nature into a smaller space. Your glass jug and cup are so stylish and your tea ritual is the perfect way to bring some mindfulness to your day. I must try doing the same. xx

    • Reply tina February 5, 2015 at 10:03 am

      Hello lovely.

I bet your cousin’s terrariums sold well.Yes, I agree it’s such a great way to incorporate a green scenario into a home. I love the storytelling.

The tea ritual sometimes saves my day, those days when I run around like a headless chicken and geting all stressed out xx

Yes, I’m so chuffed with my terrarium. It’s really difficult to photograph coz of the glass… hope it shows some of the beauty inside. Thanks Mel xx

Hi Tina! I’ve joined UJB for the first time in January and am just checking through all the other blogger posts. I love your collection of succulents and the terranium, but what really caught my eye is the ritual you have with your tea. LOVE! I’m a big tea drinker too and I love the rituals of taking the time to brew the tea, slowly decant and enjoy it just like you do. I do that every night as a relaxing routine before bed. And how delightful is that little glass pitcher? Cute!
