What did you do on Saturday? Well, I spent a wonderful couple of hours learning Kintsugi – the ancient Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold! I loved this imperfect repair method and am now completely smitten!

I don’t know about you but I’ve always worried about breaking ceramics. I just wish I would have known about Kintsugi years ago.

We were all asked to bring something broken.

Lotte, who came from Amsterdam to teach us, runs humade, a product design studio. Here Lotte explained how to mix the glue before applying the gold powder.

The kits were developed by humane and can be bought in their shop.

Loved seeing what other people brought with them to repair.

I actually didn’t have anything broken at home so was greatful that the House of St Barnabas let me have a broken milk jar I could repair and take home with me.

What I’m most excited about is that I no longer fear breaking any of my ceramics or porcelain. In fact, I can’t wait to apply this method again and the kit, which we all got to take home, will last for ages.
