Happy monday people and a special happy bank holiday (the last one this year until christmas) to my fellow british readers. There is already a hint of autumn in the air but i hold out much hope for september. Let’s hope we still have a few more warm and sunny days ahead of us.
I think we can safely say that i am map obsessed. Yes, it’s true. There’s something about a map (in all varieties) that get’s my inspiration juices flowing. I’ll introduce you to some of my fabulous maps books in the monthly my library category
This got me thinking. Why is it that so many people love maps, be it making maps, reading maps, sketching maps et cetera? What is our obsession with it? Whatever it may be, it’s so exciting to see courses and mini-movements springing up. If you haven’t yet heard of anne’s map making class on skillshare, do take a look. It’s literally for all ages, levels and stages and there’s no experience or software required. It’s only $20 and once you enrol, you’ll have access to the classroom forever! This is an important part as we’re all busy and i refer back to the class and its excellent resources often! Plus you can meet some pretty cool people too and have even more connections worldwide. Take a look what people in the very first class produced. Amazing, no?
On a separate note, wired.com has just launched their own map lab – a quest to find, explore and make maps.
I say, the more the merrier. We can all learn from each other, share and compare notes. How wonderful is that?
In the spirit of maps, let me introduce you to the very cool zeroperzero and some of their fabulous city railway system maps! I’m completely in love with their latest amsterdam edition.

Thanks for the sweet shout out! Finally got to see the Zero per Zero maps in person this summer. Bought the Paris one at Merci during their Paris themed installation. Now I think I need to buy another one for my dad 😉

I love maps too. The funky graphics and awesome colours make these maps coffee table worthy! I just popped over and looked at their Amsterdam edition and it is truly beautiful!!

Gosh, isn’t the Amsterdam one just divine. Would have to have it as a poster. Someone posted a home somewhere where they had many of ZeroperZero prints framed on their walls. I booked marked it but might not be able to put my hand to it now.

I’ve noticed you’ve been pinning alot of maps on pinterest. Maps are the window to possibility and adventure, I loved it at primary school when we were asked to draw a treasure map! The completed maps from the course are soo good and so is your pinterest page. Noted the cool map of Australia in there! xx

I love maps too, Tina! I just wish I was better at reading them, I believe there are some people who are meant to be able to read them and then there are those who are meant to find a “new” way. I’ll be honest with you Tina, I’ve never really thought much about maps but that may now change. Love the ones you have shown in your photos. This map course sounds interesting. x
It’s not a common thing to think about Maps as art or design. They are usually functional and practical. Nice if you can see them in a different way now.

I’m usually one for wandering in a city and seeing where it takes me. Of course, once lost a map always helps! I do refer to my iPhone maps, but probably not quite the same as the real thing.
I love your fascination of and love for maps. It’s truly a beautiful thing. And it helps me to appreciate these wonderful creations and works of art even more.

I’m glad I can inspire… Maps can be wonderful Art and expressions of anything. A map, by default, is linear and helps us to orientate ourselves… we can make them into anything we want and learn from them.
