This most fantastic mirror room entitled ‘all the eternal love I have for the pumpkins 2016’ is my absolute favourite.
On Saturday, a sunny day in London, I was out on the scooter. I had a busy schedule but really wanted to visit the new major Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Victoria Miro gallery on Wharf Road. Victoria Miro gallery has three London locations and has divided this latest exhibition from Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama across all its locations.
One thing is for sure, you’ll encounter queues when visiting Wharf Road so come prepared.
These new works reflect her lifelong preoccupation with the infinite and polka dots, as well as the twin themes of cosmic infinity and personal obsession, as found in pattern and repetition.
I loved these iconic mirror polished sculptures of pumpkins, a motif Kusama has often returned to. There were three different sizes on display.
“Pumpkins have been a great comfort to me since my childhood; they speak to me of the joy of living. They are humble and amusing at the same time, and I have and always will celebrate them in my art.” Yayoi Kusama

As you’ll move around the gallery you’ll come to the outside space. There you’ll find a couple of installations and a nice little table with serving coffee, tea, water and some cakes.

The next part is up some steep and very long stairs. Good exercise for the day I say but for those, less inclined to climb stairs, there’s a lift. I loved the upper floor gallery with an incredible view. It was sunny and the rooms were sun drenched.

You can’t help but feel cheery after seeing Kusama’s work. For me, spending exactly 5-10 seconds in the mirror room entitled ‘all the eternal love I have for the pumpkins 2016’ was worth the visit.
