Medical Medium – The 28-Day Healing Cleanse

Continuing from my last post about my new discovery, today I will talk about my self-diagnosis and the 28-Day Healing Cleanse I did.

I’ve been alternative since 1993 and don’t take any medication of any sorts. I believe in natural remedies and strengthening your immune system throughout the whole year. This and my beloved bone/chicken broth has prevented me from getting ill for the past 20 years. I think I had a cold in late 2012 for a couple of days.

OK, so what was my diet like before I discovered the Medical Medium book? You already know that I pretty much stay off sugar, dairy and gluten (most of the time). I’ve always believed in the stone age diet (Paleo Diet). Our hunter-gather genetic make-up is designed for the consumption of wild plants, animals and seafood. We are even less genetically suited for modern processed foods, such as sugar, refined fat, et cetera. During the last 10,000 years there has not been enough time for natural selection to make genetic changes to our relatively new farm-based diet. Farming includes grains, legumes and dairy product.

Hunter-gatherer foods include: Meat | Eggs | Seafood (fish and shellfish) | Root vegetables that can be eaten raw | Fruits | Nuts | Seeds | Herbs and spices | Vegetables | Honey, maple sugar, date sugar (natural sugars). I also eat sweet potatoes and ALWAYS make bone broth (for the past 20 years, before it became trendy!) I mostly drink water, herbal tea, fresh mint tea, water with lemon and ginger and don’t drink normal tea or coffee.

We are NOT designed to eat: Grains | Peanuts, beans, peas, cashews, tofu, soy milk, flour (legumes) | Root vegetables that cannot be eaten raw (potato, tapioca, parsnips, sweet potato, yam) | Refined sugars | Separated fats and oils | Foods that contain yeast | Juices, sodas, coffee | Alcohol | Dairy products | Processed meats | Salt

I eat mostly organic and biodynamic and cook from scratch most days. Yet I always had a bad digestion, bad skin, a sluggish liver and am overweight. As I mentioned in my last post, things were getting worst in the past couple of years.

I devoured the Medical Medium’s first book in a day and after having read heaps and seen a lot of health practitioners about my health issues for the past 23 years, I self-diagnosed the following:

I have the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and for sure have a toxic overload of heavy metals. These are the main culprits for wreaking havoc on my whole system. As a direct result I’m suffering from a sluggish or fatty liver and thyroid issues and also adrenal fatigue. Weight management is impossible, even if I eat very little and the right things. I’m constantly bloated! My Hydrochloric acid is non-existent.
I also suffer from rosacea and other skin issues and often have achy joints (especially in the knees).

The best news is that it’s all REVERSIBLE and simple to do.

All this is related. In the 80’s and 90’s Candida overgrowth was blamed for EVERYTHING and I remember being told not to eat many fruits as the fruit sugar would increase my already high Candida score. That information somehow stuck and I noticed that if I had fruit with other foods, especially animal protein it would ferment in my body. As a result my fruit intake was minimal.

I’ve always had a high protein diet (with lots of salad and vegetables), mostly from wild fish, some chicken and lean meat (predominantly wild meat). I don’t really eat grains and with no diary, sugar and gluten free, choices are limited. Fat came from olive/coconut oil and avocados and carbohydrates from vegetables. Pretty balanced diet! I now know that the overload of animal fat was making my liver even more sluggish.

After reading the Medical Medium’s book, it’s become clear that having and abundance of raw fruits and many vegetables is imperative to healing many ailments. Now a raw diet is not really my thing. Following some Ayurverdic medicine I always prefer warm foods, like soup and stews. As I waited 23 years for answers, NOTHING was too difficult or problematic and I was just too happy to follow the Medical Medium’s exact protocol.

I opted for the 28-Day Healing Cleanse which consisted of RAW fruits and vegetables and NOTHING ELSE. There are certain steps to follow that are imperative for healing from my symptoms.

Here’s what I ate:

Straight after waking – a tall glass of water with lemon squeezed in to wake up the liver.
Before breakfast (on empty stomach) – 16oz of fresh celery juice (I juice a whole celery in my Vitamix and then use a nut bag to squeeze out the juice and separate out the pulp). Celery juice restores adrenals, the hydrochloric acid in my gut and improves kidney function (massively hydrating).
Breakfast – Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie in my Vitamix – 2-3 Bananas (depending on size), 2 cups of wild blueberries (frozen), some organic atlantic dulse, freshly squeezed orange juice, 2 dates, 1 tsp Hawaiian Spirulina, 1 tsp Barley grass juice extract powder.
Mid-Morning – fruit (anything from melon, apple, pear, orange, kiwi, mango, papaya, pomegranate), some celery sticks, 1-2 dates.
Lunch – A smoothie – coconut water, fresh coriander, fresh spinach, 1 apple, some fresh ginger, some fresh lemon, 1 cup of mixed berries (frozen).
Mid-Afternoon – some more fruits as mid-morning.
Dinner – spiralized cucumber with homemade pesto, a big salad with lettuce, tomatoes, parsley, avocado, red onion.
Before Bed – Another piece of fruit (the more the better).

Here’s what I drank:

Water with lemon and ginger, Water with Mint, Water with Cucumber, Herbal teas (specifically for healing my symptoms) Nettle, Dandelion Root, Raspberry Leaf.

I pretty much ate the same for the 28 days, except for adding grapes, apricots, strawberries, changing salads around, introducing some grated carrots and beetroots.

After juicing a WHOLE celery in my Vitamix, I then use a nut bag to separate the pulp from the juice itself.

Here it is. Pure celery juice. Most days I drink a bit more than the 16oz prescribed, but hey, that’s ok. I actually love the taste!

So what have I learned? I used to eat three times a day but heavier meals. Due to my condition I need to maintain blood sugar and glucose and really eat every 90 minutes to 2 hours. That’s really hard for me, but I know it will speed up my metabolism and help me heal. I actually don’t consume enough, but in time I will adjust.

Doing the 28-Day Healing Cleanse in Mid-November to Mid-December isn’t maybe the best time but fortunately it was quite mild in London. Historically the last quarter is my busiest with work but hey, there’s no good time like the present. Anyway, as I don’t drink alcohol, smoke, drink coffee, consume sugar, gluten, dairy or have any processed food, my detox symptoms were non-existent.
I plan to do some form of the 28-Day Healing Cleanse on a regular basis, but maybe for a few days here and there.

I can assure you I’m not becoming a vegan or vegetarian and the first thing I had after my cleanse was a cup of my beloved bone broth. I’m fully committed to getting healthy and I predict it will take me up to 18 months. I’m maintaining the cleanse routine up till and sometimes even after lunch and will do so for the next 18 months. In the evenings I will have something warm, a broth, some steamed vegetables and it will also contain a small piece of wild fish or organic chicken/wild meat.

All I can tell you is that after nearly 2 months, uncomfortable bloating is a thing of the past. I’ve lost weight (eating far more than I usually do), my skin is so much better and my energy is nearly back to normal. I’m convinced that the Medical Medium’s protocols are the way forward and I have a better understanding of how to eat in the future. We’re all different and there’s no perfect diet for everyone.
My biggest learning has been to not be frightened of consuming a lot of fruits and that I actually need to do this every day.

I’ve always been preventative in my health management and believe in preventing getting cancer, heart disease or Diabetes 2 if I can.

    And hopefully soon you will realise that eating death creates death. Fruits and greens store the suns energy and contain life. Bone broth contains nutrients, but they are second hand nutrients from dead carcass. Where did those animals get those nutrients from? If you boiled baby carcass you would get similar nutrition and heaps of gelatine too! Get your nutrients first hand from the living earth. No need to forcefully take from others to sustain ourselves. The Earth gives for free. Blessings

      Yes, Bloating galore in the beginning. It is the fruits but also the re-adjustments of raw.
      I used to eat 90% cooked food for that reason alone. Stick with it and you’ll see results.

            Could the bloating be from not enough water intake? Also how is your blood sugar, and did you feel a lack of energy from no animal protein? How are your muscles?

            Actually you do have a point. It’s really important to drink enough. I do hydrate a lot but sometimes I can get bloated from too much fruit.

            My blood sugar is fine. I try and eat every 90 minutes or so even if it is a date.

            In the beginning, when I came off animal protein I felt weaker, no doubt. That re-adjusted itself and now I feel totally fine.
            My muscles are good. We don’t need proteins for muscles. The Medical Medium did a whole Social Media session on that. I believe there is a blog post somewhere.
            Google it.

    Thank you for the well considered information. I’m thinking of making August the Medical Medium cleanse time , and reading about your experience is helpful. Shifting nutritional philosophies is daunting as well as exciting. It occurs to me that flexibility is itself a sign of health!

      Actually I have just celebrated my Birthday. I tend to celebrate for a whole week and allow myself
      to eat what I want. Not always a good idea:-)
      The first thing I noticed is that my digestion has improved since on the Medical Medium protocol and
      secondly, I still get what I call food coma:-) but not as bad.

      Pleased to report I’m doing a one week only fruit and veg low fat to remedy this….. and feeling already
      back to normal after only 2 days.

    Thank you for sharing your story. I just started the cleanse. Day 3 to be exact. I have not slept well since starting. Waking up every hour to three hours. I believe it may be due to low blood sugar. Anyone else experience this?

    Im so excited to discover the Medical Medium and have just ordered the book so I can learn to heal myself.
    I’m just a bit worried about the cleanse though, as my body has started to react to many raw fruits. This has been identified as a secondary allergy where my body thinks the fruits are the same as pollen so I get a hayfever like reaction (itchy swollen lips and throat). Its very uncomfortable and it means I can’t eat raw apples, pears, nectarines, peaches, cherries, strawberries, figs, apricots and more. Maybe this is because I need to heal but I’m anxious what exactly I will have left to eat on the cleanse!

    Hi Tina,
    I, like many, have come across your post about the medical medium cleans and protocol. It’s been over a year and you guessed it would take you the 18 months Anthony gives as a maximum to heal your body. I’d love an update, to know if you’re still using his protocol or if you’ve slipped back into your previous habits, how your body is feeling, etc.
    It looks like you’ve been very busy creatively, which I’m hoping is a sign that you’ve made awesome progress healing.

      I think we are very lucky we love it. I feel for people whose palette is slightly less healthy. It must be harder for them.

        Hi Tina, how is your progress? For those of you that were bloated, how long till your bloat went down..I am dealing with candida also. I always look about 6 months prig but now on this for a few days, I now look 9 months..I love the celery juice too! I find it hard really to call all the food in! After the liquids, I am quite full!

          Oh, THE BLOAT….

          Well, I can tell you that I still get bloated.

          I used to eat exclusively warm foods for that reason but I know that most people on this protocol will bloat
          Eating a lot of raw foods has that effect.

          I’m currently on the #90daysthyroidrehab (on Instagram) and people mention that if they feel extremely bloated they try and cut down on the actual foods they eat and juice instead.
          Juicing helps a lot with bloating.

          There are many factors why we bloat. A fatty and sluggish liver is the main culprit.

      In fact my Rosacea cleared up while working with a herbalist before I encountered the Medical Medium.
      It’s not something I’m still struggling with.

    Hello! Thank you for your post. I have begun the detox and am feeling the BLOAT! I am on day five and i’m nervous that I am no longer ‘regular.’ Especially after all of the fruits and vegetables being eaten you would think going to the bathroom would be more often?? At this point I feel like I am gaining weight when originally I did not begin this cleanse to lose weight, but more for the digestive healing factors. Any advice on this would be so helpful, since i cannot find anywhere online that irregularity and constipation is a side effect =/ Thanks in advance!! Xo

      Hi,

      Many people have commented that they gained weight on the 28 day healing cleanse. I didn’t, I lost weight but I can tell you that I’ve been doing the #90daysthyroidrehab and have not lost much weight.
      I’m also doing it for the digestive healing factor but I do want to loose weight which I know will only happen when my liver heals.

      I don’t have the answer but I know that when we start to heal all kinds of things are going on in our bodies. I’ve heard that people who are doing the cleanse do eat steamed potatoes at night.
      I often find that steamed potatoes calm my system down. I did my cleanse over Nov/Dec. Maybe in the summer I would have bloated more.
      Right now it’s very muggy and I’m COMPLETELY bloated most of the time so HANG IN THERE. Have faith, you know it makes sense.

    I started my diet 50 daya ago. I eliminated gluten, diary, eggs, soy and corn. I did not do 28 cleanse diet because my stomach gets upset by eating raw food. I eat lots of fruits and veggies. I am bloated every single day and pass a lot of gasses. I also have to go to bathrooms twice a day. I lost some weight which is not my goal since I am skinny. I hope the bloating and going to bathroom so often will stop.

I also really want to try the Medical Medium diet and was wondering if you found any difficulty keeping full (while only eating fruits and veggies)? I’m so concerned about loosing weight (I’m already slightly underweight). Wonder if you have any tips on how to not loose weight during this cleanse. Thanks!

      Thank you.
      I really struggled with giving up animal proteins. The problem for me was that I had compensated for not having gluten, sugar, dairy and many other foods with having too much animal protein. When you don’t drink alcohol or coffee and you only eat veg and fish and chicken…. giving up the fish and chicken can be frightening.

      The major component for me was to introduce a lot of fruit and yes, I feel full at all times, now that I eat a whole food plant based diet. It will take time to re-adjust but if you follow the medical medium recipes you’ll really never go hungry.

      The loosing weight issue is a complex one and I think very much an individual journey. I am overweight and although I’ve kept to a strict plant based diet for 7 months have not lost a lot of weight. That’s to do with my liver so I am patient and am convinced that it will happen. Many on this protocol have experienced weight gain in the beginning, others have lost weight.

      I believe there is somewhere a Medical Medium section/radio show/blog post on loosing and gaining weight. I hope the fear of loosing weight does not put you off because I believe that we all have an optimum weight and with the right protocol we can find and maintain it.

    Thank you Tina for the inspiration. I just bought a juicer and have begun to juice celery. I am on day 5, and am looking forward to the next 25. I have also cut out animal protein, including eggs, and I don’t consume dairy, processed food/sugar, so I am looking forward to the positive effects. I can already feel a positive benefit from the celery juice, but I don’t know how much is the placebo effect.
